Smart Dumbbells Product Design

My final project for my Methods for Human Factors Engineering class was to design a product with the target users being teens of ages 13-17.

I decided to design a set of smart dumbbells which are aimed at helping teens get and stay in shape.

The dumbbells would have interchangeable weights and an accompanying app which would give the user personalized goals and challenges.

My Process

  • I started with anthropometric research and interviews with my target demographic to refine my product idea.
  • I used SolidWorks to design the physical product and Figma to design the app prototype.
  • I performed qualitative and quantitative user testing on my app prototype and iterated the design based on the feedback.
  • I learned how critical user feedback and iteration are to user centered design
