I made this CAD model for a class assignment where we tore down an electric knife to better understand the mechanical and electromechanical systems which it uses to operate. We took careful measurements of every part of the knife so we could replicate the assembly in Solidworks.
I was responsible for making each part individually (except for the blade which was modeled by a team member) and assembling each part with the correct mates. I gained experience modeling complex shapes and using a variety of different kinds of mates to combine parts in an assembly. I also learned about common ways that mass produced products can use simple electric motors to drive different kinds of motion.
